General Motors: no gas, diesel cars, trucks by 2035

General Motors has a heavy foot — at least in terms of carbon neutrality. The world’s seventh-largest automotive manufacturer has announced an expedited goal — to end production of all gas and diesel-powered cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles by 2035. GM plans to use 100 percent renewable energy to power its U.S. facilities by 2030 and global facilities by 2035. It’s five years sooner than the manufacturer has previously announced. It’s no surprise. Pickup trucks remained the country’s most popular vehicles in 2020. The Ford-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Ram Pickup 1500 ranked first through third overall among the top-10 best-selling vehicles last year, according to the car engine iSeeCars.com. The study looked at over 12.9 million vehicle sales in 2020 to determine the most popular vehicles throughout the United States. Faulty seat belt brackets have prompted a recall of 624,000 pickup trucks and SUVs from the current and past two years General Motors’ brands. The issue affects model-year 2019-21 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks as well as model-year 2020-21 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 pickups.
