Range Rover, 2013: Lighter, powerful, fast, eco-friendly

Land Rover has introduced the 2013 Range Rover, with the fourth edition as the industry’s first sport utility vehicle with an all-aluminum structure. As the lightest SUV in its class, the new Range Rover is an indication of Jaguar Land Rover’s intentions to strive toward efficiency and sustainability in a carbon-conscious world. The new model features a lightweight all-aluminum body structure resulting in a 20 percent weight saving over outgoing models and delivering improved fuel economy and CO2 emissions. In the United States, engine options are a 5.0-liter V8 with 375 horsepower and supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 510 horsepower. The naturally-aspirated model reaches 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, while the supercharged Range Rover will accelerated 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

Jaguar Land Rover, Chery propose joint venture to make cars in China

Jaguar Land Rover and Chery Automobile Company hope to gain approval for a nearly $3 billion joint automotive venture in eastern China, according to a two-source report by Reuters. If the deal is approved, it would be located in Shanghai in Changshu City and the facility would first manufacture Land Rover SUVs, followed by Jaguars. Jaguar Land Rover, controlled by Tata Motors of India, had previously attempted joint venture deals with other Chinese partners, but negotiations stalled. Last year, Jaguar Land Rover sold about 42,000 cars in China, while German stronghold Audi sold approximately 313,000 vehicles. Tata Motors Of India Buys Jaguar, Land Rover From Ford Motor Co.

The price is about one-third of what Ford paid for the two brands. According to the Associated Press, the transaction will “expand the Indian carmaker’s reach around the globe and give Jaguar and Land Rover capital to update and expand their product lines.” The sale had been in the works for months as Ford sought money to fund its turnaround plan. Tata will pay $2.3 billion for the British brands, but Ford will pay about $600 million into the Jaguar-Land Rover pension fund when the deal closes, Tata’s statement said.
