Maybach has joined the expanding list of discontinued car brands in recent years after parent company Daimler AD announced its will cease the ultra-luxuy line with its 2012 models — and only a decade after its revival. With the Maybach departing, the German luxury car maker said it plans to expand its S-Class Mercedes Benz, the top-end segment, to six models from the current three beginning in 2013. Andy Rooney: A 'love affair' with Lexus and the used car industry

In his iconic career with CBS, Andy Rooney gave opinions about politicians and personalities and even used cars, including the history and affection for his one-time Lexus sport utility vehicle. In the commentary, Rooney traced his former Lexus SUV's life after he sold it. It transitioned from wholesaler to wholesaler to used car lots to car auctions to the suburban family who bought the car. As was his style, Rooney expressed his opinion, noting that the only company who didn't speak with him was the company "that probably made the most on the car." Even in his three-minute commentarty, Rooney was a master at explaining the entire used car industry. He had a passion for his Lexus and found out

Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, 2012: Fast, luxurious, expensive

Despite a lazy economy, you can still buy posh Mercedes-Benz models that accelerate like locomotives at full steam. And one glance at the revised 2012 Mercedes CLS63 AMG should tell you this is one very fast, luxurious car. It looks expensive and is expensive at $94,900 — without desirable options. With the destination charge, they pushed the price of my new test CLS63 AMG to $112,585. This four-door sedan has coupe-like styling, pioneered by Mercedes in 2006 with the original CLS and has been copied by other automakers. Some may feel the revised styling of the 2012 CLS63 AMG is overly aggressive, compared to the 2011 model’s "softer" styling. But, what the heck, this thing is designed for aggressive driving.

Audi A7, 2012: Stylish luxury sedan collecting praise (video)

The 2012 Audi A7 has received nearly universal praise for its slick exterior design, handsome, well-dsigned interior and superior performance. The upscale sedan or sporting utility vehicle was selected as 2011 Car of the Year by Esquire Magazine and it's likely a front runner for similar honors in 2012 by niche automobile publications and car websites. Here's what a few car reviewers are commenting about the 2012 Audi A7: "Delightful — that sums up the A7 in a word. It has a cabin that’s the epitome of sophisticated comfort and the sort of ride demanded of a large, luxurious car. However, head out of town, ramp up the tone of the drive and look out — it carves a corner

Audi A7, 2012: Return to the future with style and speed

Launched at the 2010 Paris Auto Show and then to the United States market in April at the New York Auto Show, the 2012 Audi A7 marks the manufacturer's return to the luxury hatchback segment. The three-door Audi 100 (1970) and the five-door Avant (1977) were Audi's previous upscale hatchbacks — and a lot has changed in 37 years. The Weekly Driver Test Drive A friend says the 2012 Audi A7 is at the forefront of a new car segment — or at least a new segment en vogue for the first time in 40 years. He calls the new sedan a Luxury Utility Vehicle or a Sporty Utility Vehicle. After a week with the A7, I think my friend

BMW X3, 2011: Larger, longer, quicker, lighter

The redesigned second-generation BMW X3 is larger and roomier, providing fast acceleration and nearly sports-sedan handling and good utility. There are only minor trim changes for 2012. This 2011 model is larger and looks much like a “baby” BMW X5. It’s 3.4 inches longer, 1.1 inch wider and half an inch taller than its predecessor. It also has a slightly longer wheelbase and a little more ground clearance. Yet it weighs less than its predecessor. The $36,750 four-door X3 xDrive 28i model, which I tested, comes with a 3-liter, six-cylinder engine generating 240 horsepower. Although down from the 2010 version’s 260 horsepower, it provides strong acceleration with high revs and should satisfy most X3 buyers. There’s also a new intercooled
