What kind of battery complaint?

Among the 1 battery-related complaints, here's the type mix. These percentages describe what the complaints are about — not how reliable the vehicle is overall.

High-Voltage Battery 1 (100%)

Propulsion battery defects, capacity loss, BMS faults, replacement claims.

Electric Propulsion 1 (100%)

Loss of power, drive unit, inverter, traction motor, DC-DC converter.

Source: classified from NHTSA complaint and recall data. "Battery-related" includes high-voltage propulsion battery, charging system, hybrid drivetrain, electric propulsion, regenerative braking, 12V auxiliary battery, and thermal-event complaints. Other complaints (suspension, steering, brakes, infotainment) appear in the engine and vehicle-level sections. Rates are absolute counts, not normalized per-VIN — high-volume models naturally produce more raw complaints than low-volume ones. Self-reported death and injury counts are capped per complaint to limit form abuse.

Known issues

High
Jaguar is buying back most 2019 I-PACEs. NHTSA 24V-633 (August 2024) covers 2,760 cars after three fires in the U.S. on 2019 cars that already had the earlier software fix. The final remedy is repurchase, and until then owners are told to limit charging to 80%, park away from structures and charge outside.
High
NHTSA 24V-183 (March 2024) covers 269 early cars, mostly 2019 models, with battery packs made on or before May 31, 2018. Those packs are more prone to cell short circuits that can end in a fire above about 85% charge. Jaguar replaces the pack or buys the car back, and tells owners to charge to no more than 75%, park away from structures and charge outside until then.
High
NHTSA 26V-067 (February 2026) covers 2,278 I-PACEs from 2020 and 2021. Jaguar found the fire risk remained after its protective software on packs built through the 2021 model year. Dealers install software that limits the state of charge as an interim step, and owners are told to park away from structures and charge outside. Jaguar had not announced the permanent remedy in its latest filing.
High
NHTSA 23V-369 (May 2023) covers 6,422 I-PACEs from 2019 to 2024 after eight U.S. fire reports. Dealers update the battery control software to monitor the pack, which caps charging at 75% when it detects a risk, and replace modules or the pack where needed. It is still the only battery fire recall on 2022 to 2024 cars; later campaigns replaced it for 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Medium
Three smaller recalls fixed earlier repairs. 23V-709 (October 2023) and 24V-085 (February 2024) cover cars whose first software update was not loaded correctly or carried a diagnostic error on 2019 and 2020 models. 24V-927 (December 2024) covers 2019 cars whose interim charge-limit software was not applied properly.
Low
NHTSA 24V-086 (February 2024) covers two 2019-2020 cars whose module-to-module busbar fasteners may be loose, which can cause arcing. Dealers inspect and repair the fixings.
Low
Jaguar's owner handbook lists 84.7 kWh of usable energy at 388 volts for every model year from 2019 to 2024. Jaguar's releases call the pack 90 kWh.
Low
The pack holds 432 pouch cells with nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry. Jaguar quoted about 40 minutes from empty to 80 percent on a 100 kW DC charger at launch, and covers the battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles down to 70 percent state of health.
Low
The 2019 car has a 7 kW on-board charger. Jaguar made an 11 kW unit standard on the 2022 model in the U.S.

How this pack ages (industry context)

Industry fleet aggregates: 2.3% average annual capacity loss across 22,700 EVs / 21 models (Geotab, 2026), and 95% range retention at 5 years on average across 30,000+ vehicles (Recurrent, 2026).

OEM warranty floor on this pack: 8 yr / 100k mi to 70% capacity.

Public per-pack degradation curves are not available for most models. Individual results vary materially with climate, charging behavior, and DC fast-charge frequency.
