American Express, like other web sites, offers special prices to its online customers. But arguably the best deal ever available for new car buyers will occur Dec. 16 when two 2011 BMW 328i models will be sold for half-price.
Similar to Groupon.com and LivingSocial.com, DailyWish.com, American Express’ online marketplace, leverages the power of group purchasing. A limited/fixed number of items are offered at a deep discount and once the last item is sold out, the deal is over.
In this instance, only two BMWs will be available for half-price $17,262.50 (regularly $35,975).
The BMW 320i deal, like all a DailyWish.com offerings, can only be purchased by American Express Cardmembers.
Here’s a sample of rules and regulations of the BMW deal:
Question: Does the cardholder need to have an Amex spending limit that’s greater than the cost of the car ($18K) in order to purchase it?
Answer: Cardmembers can use any American Express® Card to pay for the vehicle in part or whole, subject to the terms of their Card limit. The Cardmember is not obligated to pay for the car on their Card but the dealer is obligated to allow the Cardmember to charge a minimum of $2k if they wish.
Question: Does the cardholder need to have an Amex spending limit that’s greater than the cost of the car ($18K) in order to purchase it?
Answer: Cardmembers can use any American Express® Card to pay for the vehicle in part or whole, subject to the terms of their Card limit, via the American Express Auto Purchasing Program
Question: Are the BMWs being offered just the basic model with no added features, or is there an option to add different features and accessories? If so, is the cost more than the $18K?
Answer: The vehicles offered through the Daily Wish Program is the base model. Additional options can added at the buyer’s expense. Within three (3) business days of the sale, a representative from the American Express Auto Purchasing Program will contact the buyer to provide information about the vehicle, including available interior and exterior colors, and to arrange for a dealer for the buyer. The representative will ensure that the purchase is completed smoothly.

I think this deal may turn out to be less attractive than it looks at first blush because of limited choices and the need to "pay extra" for features that would be desirable in the car were it to be purchased through normal channels.
