Oliver Zipse, BMW Group CEO, was named World Car Person of the Year.

BMW iX3: Neue Klasse Arrives

The iX3 is BMW’s first vehicle built on the Neue Klasse platform, the company’s dedicated EV architecture. An 800-volt battery system holds 108 kWh and enables DC fast charging at up to 400 kW. Ten minutes on a charger adds up to 230 miles of range. The full 10-to-80-percent charge takes 21 minutes.

Dual motors produce 463 hp and 476 lb-ft through all-wheel drive. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes approximately 4.6 seconds. EPA range is estimated at 400 miles. U.S. pricing starts around $60,000.

The iX3 edged out the redesigned Hyundai Palisade and the Nissan Leaf in the final round. It is BMW’s first overall World Car of the Year since the E90 3 Series won in 2006, ending a 20-year gap. BMW has collected nine World Car Awards total, but the overall title had been elusive. Hyundai Motor Group had won four straight years: Ioniq 5 (2022), Ioniq 6 (2023), Kia EV9 (2024), and Kia EV3 (2025).

Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: Three-Peat for Hyundai N

The Ioniq 6 N extends Hyundai’s dominance of the performance category. The Ioniq 5 N won World Performance Car in both 2024 and 2025. The sedan variant makes 601 hp in standard operation and 641 hp for a 10-second burst through the N Grin Boost button on the steering wheel. Torque reaches 568 lb-ft.

The performance technology goes deeper than raw output. N Drift Optimizer allows adjustable settings for initiation angle and wheel spin. N Torque Distribution lets the driver manually adjust front-to-rear torque split. N e-Shift simulates motorsport gear changes for driver engagement.

The Ioniq 6 N took the award over the 523-hp BMW M2 CS and the 655-hp Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray.

An electric Hyundai sedan over a hybrid Corvette with more combined horsepower. The jury weighs the complete driving experience, not spec-sheet output. U.S. availability is expected in 2026 with extremely limited numbers at select dealers. Pricing has not been announced.

Lucid Gravity: American-Built Luxury Winner

The Gravity is Lucid’s second production vehicle after the Air sedan, which won this same luxury category in 2023. The Touring trim starts at $79,900 with 560 hp and 337 miles of EPA range from an 89-kWh battery. The Grand Touring jumps to 828 hp and 450 miles from a 123-kWh pack, starting at $98,900. A Dream Edition opens at $141,550.

Seating accommodates up to seven adults with fold-flat second and third rows. Cargo reaches 120 cubic feet with seats folded. Towing capacity hits 6,000 pounds on the Grand Touring with the Towing Package. The 0.24 drag coefficient is exceptional for a seven-seat SUV.

Jurors picked the Gravity over the Cadillac Vistiq and Volvo ES90 in the final round. Built at Lucid’s Casa Grande, Arizona plant, it is the only American-manufactured winner in this year’s awards.

Mazda 6e and Nio Firefly

The Mazda 6e won World Car Design, with jurors rewarding its Kodo design language adapted for an electric sedan. The 6e offers up to 345 miles of WLTP range from an 80-kWh battery. U.S. pricing is estimated between $42,000 and $51,000 when it arrives in summer 2026. The 6e won the design award ahead of the Kia PV5 and Volvo ES90.

The World Urban Car went to the Nio Firefly, a compact electric hatchback from the Chinese brand. With a 41.2-kWh battery providing approximately 205 miles of WLTP range, it starts at roughly $17,400 in China and around 30,000 euros in Europe. The Firefly is not sold in the United States and is not expected here in the near term due to the 100-percent tariff on Chinese-manufactured EVs. It took the category over the Baojun Yep Plus and Hyundai Venue.

What the Sweep Means

The last purely combustion-powered vehicle to win World Car of the Year was the Kia Telluride in 2020. Every overall winner since has been electric or electrified. But individual categories had always included at least one combustion or hybrid winner. This year, the sweep is total.

The 98 jurors from 33 countries vote after back-to-back comparison test drives at an annual event in Pasadena, California. Ballots are secret and tabulated by KPMG. The process is designed to filter marketing from experience. That every category’s winner emerged as an EV reflects where the strongest new products are currently landing, regardless of powertrain politics.
