Reliability Overview
The 5.7L Hemi V8 carries the DT-generation Ram 1500's reliability record. It accounts for 2,861 of the truck's 4,055 NHTSA complaints across 2019-2025, with electrical (867) and engine (708) failures leading its file. All four deaths recorded against the generation involve Hemi-equipped trucks, along with 129 of its 176 crash reports.
The 3.6L Pentastar V6 with eTorque has 485 complaints, where electrical (156) and engine (152) problems lead. The supercharged 6.2L V8 in the TRX has only 52 complaints. The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 scores 2.7, on 206 powertrain complaints from an estimated 63,000 trucks: fuel system (164) and engine (141) complaints make up most of its 310, and it carries 10 of the generation's 32 fire reports. The 3.0L inline-six that replaced the Hemi for 2025 has 289 complaints after one model year, 158 of them electrical.
Sixty-three recall campaigns attach to the generation, and the 2019 launch year drew the densest cluster. An improperly repaired terminal on the 48-volt auxiliary battery could overheat. Contaminated electric power steering gears could short and cut assist, a loose battery ground on the driver-side fender could do the same, and improperly machined steering column stub shafts could break and detach the steering wheel.
EcoDiesel trucks collected their own set: a cracked EGR cooler that can let vaporized coolant combust inside the intake manifold, high-pressure fuel pump failures across 2019-2023 trucks, and a crankshaft position sensor tone wheel that can delaminate and stall the engine. Later campaigns moved to software and modules. Trailer reverse steering modules blanked the rearview camera on 2021-2023 trucks, and damaged front hub encoder rings could disable stability control on 2025 models.
The DT fits a buyer who wants a current-generation Ram with the Pentastar V6 and will confirm every campaign on the VIN is closed before signing.

The 3.6L Pentastar V6 with eTorque is the engine to shop, with 485 complaints. The EcoDiesel scores 2.7, and the 2025 inline-six has one model year on file. The TRX's supercharged 6.2L has 52 complaints. The 2019 launch trucks carry the heaviest share of steering and battery campaigns; later trucks trade those for software and module recalls.
Run the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls first. Several of the 63 campaigns were written for the Ram 1500 Classic, the previous-generation truck sold alongside the DT, so the VIN lookup settles which ones apply. On a 2019, confirm the power steering gear, battery ground, steering column stub shaft and 48-volt battery terminal campaigns are closed. On any EcoDiesel, confirm the EGR cooler, high-pressure fuel pump and crankshaft tone wheel work.
On the test drive, feel for power steering assist that drops out or turns heavy, and shift into reverse to confirm the rearview camera shows an image, especially on trucks with the trailer reverse steering module.
