Known issues

High
The high-voltage battery main contactors may overheat on 2021-2022 Mach-E vehicles and cause a loss of drive power. NHTSA 22V-412 (June 2022, Ford 22S41) was an on-board software update. 23V-687 (October 2023, Ford 23S56) replaces the high-voltage battery junction box on extended-range cars, including those already updated under 22V-412, and 25V-441 (June 2025) extends it to more 2022 models. 25V-130 (February 2025) repeats the software update on cars repaired incorrectly under 22V-412.
Low
Ford replaced this pack with an LFP one for model year 2023.5. The eighth VIN digit tells them apart: 4 or 5 means LFP.
Low
DC fast charging peaks at 115 kW against 150 kW for the extended-range pack, and usable capacity is 68 kWh on 2021 cars and 70 kWh from 2022.

How this pack ages (industry context)

Industry fleet aggregates: 2.3% average annual capacity loss across 22,700 EVs / 21 models (Geotab, 2026), and 95% range retention at 5 years on average across 30,000+ vehicles (Recurrent, 2026).

OEM warranty floor on this pack: 8 yr / 100k mi to 70% capacity.

Public per-pack degradation curves are not available for most models. Individual results vary materially with climate, charging behavior, and DC fast-charge frequency.

26V582000 Sep 9, 2026 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY:MANAGEMENT SYSTEM/ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BMS/BECM):SOFTWARE

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Mustang Mache E vehicles that received a new Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) during a prior repair. The battery energy control module software may cause an incorrect state of charge to display in the vehicle, or lead to an increased risk of a high voltage battery fire after repeated DC Fast Charging cycles.

Consequence: An inaccurate state-of-charge reading can lead to an unexpected loss of drive power, increasing the risk of crash. Additionally, a high voltage battery fire increases the risk of injury.
