Known issues

Low
Tesla publishes no capacity for this pack. It declared 350 volts and 230 Ah to EPA for the 2017-2020 Long Range and Performance cars, and in its certification tests they discharged between 77.5 and 79.8 kWh from full to empty.
Low
Tesla said its Supercharger V3, launched in March 2019, supports peak rates of up to 250 kW per car. Tesla publishes no 10 to 80 percent time.
Low
Tesla's 2019 annual report says the battery modules for the Model 3 and Model Y use lithium-ion cells produced by Panasonic at Gigafactory Nevada. Tesla describes the 2170 cell as jointly designed with Panasonic.
Low
Model 3s from 2017 through 2020 heat the cabin with a resistive heater. The heat pump arrived on the Model Y in 2020 and on the Model 3 for 2021.
Low
Tesla's warranty covers the Long Range and Performance battery for 8 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first, with at least 70% retention of battery capacity. Standard Range cars are covered for 100,000 miles.
Low
The displayed range can fall without a matching loss of battery capacity. Tesla's warranty calls range estimates "an imperfect measure of Battery capacity because they are affected by additional factors separate from Battery capacity."

How this pack ages (industry context)

Industry fleet aggregates: 2.3% average annual capacity loss across 22,700 EVs / 21 models (Geotab, 2026), and 95% range retention at 5 years on average across 30,000+ vehicles (Recurrent, 2026).

OEM warranty floor on this pack: 8 yr / 120k mi to 70% capacity.

Public per-pack degradation curves are not available for most models. Individual results vary materially with climate, charging behavior, and DC fast-charge frequency.

Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The pyrotechnic battery disconnect may be defective.

Consequence: A defective battery disconnect may not isolate the vehicle's high voltage battery after a crash or fault detection, increasing the risk of electrical shock and injury.

Filed against: Tesla Model 3 2017-2020; Tesla Model Y 2020-2020
