James Raia

Hot Wheels Elite, a division of Mattel, will issue a limited edition 1:18 scale diecast model of Eric Clapton’s Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso later this year as part of its “Ferrari in Music” line of replica cars.

In an interview with ferrari.com earlier this year, Eric said that even as a small boy he was crazy about motor racing, and that the car he’s always most fancied is Ferrari.

The replica of Clapton’s silver 250GT Berlinetta Lusso will be a “faithful” reproduction. Limited to 5,000 individually numbered pieces, it will come in a dedicated package featuring pictures, EC’s facsimile signature and Ferrari’s logo.

It’s definitely not a child’s toy, but aimed at adult collectors as the Hot Wheels Elite brand is devoted to replica car collectors and motor enthusiasts.

Replicas in 1:18 scale have synthetic rubber tires, high-quality paint finishes, moving steering wheels, working wheels, opening doors, trunk and hood that reveal fully detailed engines and interiors. Already out in the Ferrari in Music Line is Nick Mason’s Ferrari 512S and Jamiroquai’s Enzo.

Eric’s “real” 250GT Berlinetta Lusso was part of a limited run of 350 luxury models built by Ferrari between 1962 and 1964 and is considered one if top sports cars of the 1960s.

The Hot Wheels Elite: Ferrari 250GT Berlinetta Lusso – Eric Clapton, will be silver and have a dimension of 13.2 x 6.8 x 5 inches. The replica could be available in October although the release date is subject to change.
