Bugatti, Koenigsegg, Maybach top 2011 most expensive cars

Forbes loves to report on all things expensive, particularly cars. The business publication’s online version just published its list of the most expensive cars for 2011, the Bugatti Veyron to the Rolls Royce Phantom.

The publication wrote in its introduction:

“These cars have the über-engineered carbon fiber bodies, obscene amounts of horsepower and excessive creature comforts (silver champagne flutes and lambswool carpeting, anyone?) that draw big price tags.”

“To compile our list of the most expensive cars going on sale next year, we scoured price lists from well-known manufacturers like Bugatti, Rolls-Royce and Maybach, and from lesser-known companies like Saleen and SSC. Some expected entrants (Aston Martin, Spyker, McLaren) didn’t quite have the stuff to make our list. Others, like Koenigsegg, had a few models that might have qualified, so we limited our list to the most expensive car from each manufacturer.”

Topping the Forbes’ list is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, the fastest production car in the world. Consider some of its stats: 268 mph, 0-60 mph, 2.48 seconds; W16, 1,200 horsepower engine; 6.3 mpg (city) 15.8 mpg (hwy);

Here’s the list of the most expensive cars for 2011:

1. Bugatti Veyron, $2.6 million

2. Koenigsegg Agera, $1.5 million (estimate)

3. Maybach Landaulet, $1.405 million

4. Pagani Zonda C9, $1.3 million

5. SSC Ultimate Aero, $750,000

6. LeBlanc Mirabeau, $728,000

7. Ferrari SA Aperta, $520,000 (estimated)

8. Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, $455,400

9. Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, $447,000

10. (Bonus pick) Ferrari F70 (2012), MSRP: $870,000 (estimate)
