Five NHTSA recalls cover a possible short circuit within the Taycan's high-voltage battery modules, a fire risk. 23V-840 (December 2023), 24V-215 and 24V-217 (March 2024) were followed in October 2024 by 24V-731, which replaces modules on 193 cars from 2020-2023, and 24V-732, which covers about 27,500 more Taycans and installs diagnostic software that watches the battery. Where an affected car is flagged, Porsche tells the owner to charge to no more than 80% until the battery is repaired, free of charge.

NHTSA 23V-615 (Taycan) and 23V-613 (e-tron GT), both September 2023, cover 2023 cars whose high-voltage battery may have too little sealant, which can let liquid collect in the battery. Dealers test the battery for leaks and replace it as necessary, free of charge.

Porsche's spec sheet lists this pack at 613 volts, 129 Ah and 79.2 kWh gross in 28 modules, against 723 volts, 93.4 kWh and 33 modules for the Performance Battery Plus. It charges at up to 225 kW and goes from 5 to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes, the same time Porsche quotes for the larger pack at 270 kW.

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Taycan vehicles. The high-voltage battery may experience a short circuit within the battery module.

Consequence: A short circuit in a high-voltage battery increases the risk of a fire.
