Known issues

High
NHTSA 23V-440 (June 2023) covers all 14,452 Fusion Energi cars from 2019 and 2020. Gas build-up in a battery cell can trip its current interrupt device and send excess voltage through the battery control module, which can cut drive power or start a fire around the module. Ford knew of seven fires when it filed. Dealers replace the high-voltage battery and load software that lowers the maximum state of charge by 11 percent. Owners were told not to charge until repaired.
Low
NHTSA 19V-099 (February 2019) covers 2,108 Fusion Energi cars from 2019 that fell short of the federal standard for shielding high-voltage parts. Dealers fit a cover over the high-voltage fuses.
Low
Ford raised the pack to 9 kWh for 2019. Its spec sheet lists air cooling and a full charge in 2.5 hours at 240 volts or seven hours at 120 volts; EPA lists 2.6 hours.
Low
Ford covers hybrid components, the battery included, for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Under California's transitional zero-emission vehicle rules the high-voltage battery is covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles.

How this pack ages (industry context)

Industry fleet aggregates: 2.3% average annual capacity loss across 22,700 EVs / 21 models (Geotab, 2026), and 95% range retention at 5 years on average across 30,000+ vehicles (Recurrent, 2026).

OEM warranty floor on this pack: 8 yr / 100k mi.

Public per-pack degradation curves are not available for most models. Individual results vary materially with climate, charging behavior, and DC fast-charge frequency.

23V440000 Jun 23, 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY:MANAGEMENT SYSTEM/ENERGY CONTROL MODULE (BMS/BECM)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Fusion PHEV vehicles. The battery energy control module (BECM) may become damaged due to excessive voltage and current flow.

Consequence: A damaged BECM can result in a loss of drive power or fire, increasing the risk of a crash.
