Mild Hybrid

Battery & propulsion complaint analysis for the 2017-2025 Audi Q7

βœ… Recommended
10 battery-related complaints 5.0 per year 0 battery-related recalls

That's near the typical rate for mild hybrids in this dataset (median 4.0 per year). Within the normal range for the category.

What kind of battery complaint?

Among the 10 battery-related complaints, here's the type mix. These percentages describe what the complaints are about β€” not how reliable the vehicle is overall.

High-Voltage Battery 6 (60%)

Propulsion battery defects, capacity loss, BMS faults, replacement claims.

Electric Propulsion 3 (30%)

Loss of power, drive unit, inverter, traction motor, DC-DC converter.

Hybrid Drivetrain 1 (10%)

Hybrid system warnings, eCVT, motor-generator, hybrid transaxle.

Sample complaint excerpts
High-Voltage Battery
  • [2020] Emergency battery light came on with a description of power malfunction. The light went from yellow to red then shortly stopped in the road while driving with complete power outage.
  • [2021] I am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety and mechanical issue involving my 2021 Audi Q7. The alternator on my vehicle was replaced by Audi in November 2024 as part of an official Audi recall. On October 22, 2025, less than one year later, the alternator failed while I was driving, causing the following safety hazards and damages: Sudden loss of battery power Complete battery drain D
  • [2021] Driving on highway at 70 mph and high engine temp light came on. Said to pull over and continue to run car until temp decreased. I got over as quickly as I could ( no more than 1/4 of a mile) and sat on side of PA turnpike as engine cooled. I was at bottom of an exit ramp. I slowly proceeded up the ramp and warning came on again and red temp light reached again. I pulled right into the gas station
Electric Propulsion
  • [2020] In July 2023, my 2020 Audi Q7 experienced a complete electrical failure at highway speeds due to a Belt Starter Generator (BSG) malfunction. Audi replaced the BSG with the same faulty part. Months later, I noticed increased oil consumption and loud engine noise. Despite multiple service visits and reporting these issues, Audi failed to properly diagnose the problem. In January 2025, despite a clea
  • [2021] I am submitting this complaint regarding a safety-related recall on my Audi Q7 involving the alternator. The wording of the recall is significantly underplayed, written off as an emissions issues. When in reality this is a life threatening flaw in the alternator. It is highly concerning that Audi isn’t being transparent with people who are driving these cars and risking their lives while doing so.
  • [2021] - Engine water pump failure and coolant intrusion into the vacuum system. Parts were replaced on 5 Nov 2025 and possible still at the dealer's location. - The defect poses the following safety risks: It resulted in contamination of vacuum lines; potential for sudden engine stalling or loss of power while driving; potential for catastrophic damage to engine-management systems dependent on vacuum in
Hybrid Drivetrain
  • [2021] While driving, vehicle flashed red error codes for an electrical system malfunction and indicated that the vehicle should be stopped as soon as possible. As part of this failure, the auto start/stop for the vehicle became disabled. Vehicle was towed to Audi dealer, and after sitting on the lot for a week, the dealer confirmed that the starter generator for the 48V mild hybrid system failed.

Source: classified from NHTSA complaint and recall data. "Battery-related" includes high-voltage propulsion battery, charging system, hybrid drivetrain, electric propulsion, regenerative braking, 12V auxiliary battery, and thermal-event complaints. Other complaints (suspension, steering, brakes, infotainment) appear in the engine and vehicle-level sections. Rates are absolute counts, not normalized per-VIN β€” high-volume models naturally produce more raw complaints than low-volume ones. Self-reported death and injury counts are capped per complaint to limit form abuse.
