Elon Musk has never been shy about expressing his opinion or touting his iconic vehicle, the Tesla. Now the CEO of the high-performance electric sports car manufacturer will further promote his vehicles with a well-tested approach — leading by example.

According to a recent report on CNNMoney.com, Musk has finalized the details of a six-day trip cross country car trip with his five sons at the end of 2013.

“Just finalized the LA to NY family road trip route in Model S. 6 day, 3,200-mile journey with only nine hours spent charging,” Musk Tweeted in his trip announcement.

Three months ago, Musk announced plans to drive across country to promote the Tesla and his expanding network of superchargers.

“I’m planning to do a road trip with my kids from LA to NY at the end of the year. Which will be an adventure. Kind of like those Chevy Chase movies,” Musk said at the company’s annual meeting in June.

Telsa’s network of superchargers, free for Tesla owners, currently has 19 locations, primarily on the East and West coasts.

The Tesla S takes about 20 to 25 minutes to recharge. The Model S can go about 150 miles between quick charges, which translates into about 20 charging stops. Tesla’s supercharging network is expanding nationwide and expected to reach 100 locations across the country by the end of 2015.

Although Musk hasn’t announced his exact route, the trek from Los Angeles to New York will likely progress north through South Dakota and Minnesota to take advantage of the expected supercharger network locations established by the end of the year.
