26V103000 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY

Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2025 EX30 vehicles. The high voltage battery may experience a short circuit and overheat.

Consequence: A high voltage battery that overheats increases the risk of a fire.

Source: classified from NHTSA complaint and recall data. "Battery-related" includes high-voltage propulsion battery, charging system, hybrid drivetrain, electric propulsion, regenerative braking, 12V auxiliary battery, and thermal-event complaints. Other complaints (suspension, steering, brakes, infotainment) appear in the engine and vehicle-level sections. Rates are absolute counts, not normalized per-VIN โ€” high-volume models naturally produce more raw complaints than low-volume ones. Self-reported death and injury counts are capped per complaint to limit form abuse.

Known issues

High
Two NHTSA campaigns (26V001 and 26V103, both opened February 2026) cover a high-voltage battery short-circuit and overheat risk on 2025 EX30s; Volvo's remedy is a software update to the battery management system. The two campaigns appear to address overlapping populations and are listed separately by NHTSA.
Low
DC fast-charge peak is approximately 153 kW; real-world charge curves taper after ~50% SOC consistent with other 400V CATL prismatic NCM packs.
Low
US market launched late 2024 with the Twin Motor Performance variant only; the China-market 51 kWh LFP Standard Range trim has not been offered for US sale, so this record covers the 69 kWh NCM pack exclusively.
Low
Manufacturing is performed at Geely's Zhangjiakou facility in China; complete-knock-down (CKD) Belgium production was originally planned to dodge US Section 301 tariffs but was delayed indefinitely in 2024.
Low
Sister vehicle Smart #1 / #3 share the SEA2 architecture and broadly similar 66-69 kWh pack specifications; Smart vehicles are not US-market and are not reflected in this record.

How this pack ages (industry context)

Industry fleet aggregates: 2.3% average annual capacity loss across 22,700 EVs / 21 models (Geotab, 2026), and 95% range retention at 5 years on average across 30,000+ vehicles (Recurrent, 2026).

OEM warranty floor on this pack: 8 yr / 100k mi to 70% capacity.

Public per-pack degradation curves are not available for most models. Individual results vary materially with climate, charging behavior, and DC fast-charge frequency.
