2016 Car of the Year? Chevrolet, Honda, Mazda?

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is among three finalists for 2016 Car of the year.

The Chevrolet Malibu, Honda Civic and Mazda MX-5 Miata, three longstanding vehicles with loyal followings in vastly different new and used car markets, have been named finalists for 2016 North American Car of the Year.

The Honda Pilot, Nissan Titan XD and Volvo XC90 were name finalists for Truck of the Year in the recent announcement the Automotive Press Association in Detroit.

The 2016 North American Car and Truck of the Year will be announced in January at the Detroit Auto Show.
The finalists were chosen from short lists of 10 cars and 12 pickups and SUVs created by a jury of 53 automotive journalists.

Chevrolet Has Two Cars Considered For Car of the Year

The BMW 7 series, Cadillac CT6, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Volt, Kia Optima, Nissan Maxima and Toyota Prius were the other cars on the short list.

The Ford Edge, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Renegade, Kia Sorento, Lexus RX, Mazda CX-3, Tesla Model X and Toyota Tacoma were the other trucks and SUVs on the short list.

Vehicles must be new or significantly altered to be eligible for the awards. Criteria includes innovation, design, safety, value, comfort, driver satisfaction and other factors.

The Volkswagen Golf and Ford F-150 won the 2015 Car and Truck of the Year awards, respectively.

General Motors and Ford lead all automakers with 10 wins since the award’s inception in 1994.
