Since its debut a decade and a half ago, the Audi A4 has built a reputation as a versatile entry-level luxury car. It’s strong on design, with superb handling and personality.

The Audi 4 offers a lot to different car buyers. Not many vehicles in the same class are offered as a sedan, convertible and wagon, and that’s another strong trait for the vehicle often credited with jettisoning Audi out of its sales slump and image problems in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The new SmartForTwo, the smallest car available in the United States, has started to appear in various part of the country. It's a wondrous revelation for new, small car enthusiasts.

But the Smart's debut has nothing on the Tata Nano — or at least it won't. The world's least expensive car, which made its car show debut last January, will be available to the public this fall. It's debut video was dramatic and the vehicle was introduced by the company's chairman, Ratan Tata.

A crossover is an automobile with a sports utility vehicle appearance but built upon a more economical and fuel-efficient unibody construction.

But what is the Ford Edge — a mini mini-van, a newfangled wagon or a SUV?

Videographer Bruce Aldrich and I take a look the Edge in our continuing series of 2008 video car reviews from www.theweeklydriver.com.

Ford debuted a smaller, less expensive alternative to The Explorer, its vastly popular sports utility vehicle, in 2001. In North America, it was called The Escape and in Europe it was called The Maverick.

The new compact SUV was developed in conjunction with Mazda, which in turn is owned in principle by Ford. Thus, the Escape, the Mazda Tribute and Ford's Mercury division SUV, the Mariner, are not surprisingly quite similar.

It's happened to all of us. You're driving a rental car or a friend's car (or your own car) and you stop for gas. As you're getting close to the pumps you realize you don't know on which side of the car the gas cap is located.

This video, which claims to showcase a sure-fire way to determine the proper side is a popular video on the site Metacafe.com. And now it's (hopefully) a popular video on the TheWeeklyDriver.com.

The Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG features a 6.2-liter V8 with a 481 horsepower, seven-speed automatic transmission. It's available in Coupé and Cabriolet.

Compared to its predecessor the CLK63 has 31 percent more power and 23 percent more torque. The CLK63 is currently being used as the safety car in Formula One. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

A mid-size entry level luxury car, the Cadillac CTS was introduced in 2003 as a replacement for the Catera. Five years, later it's become the manufacturer's first success story in recent market campaign to sell vehicles to younger buyers.

The CTS, in fact, is credited with rekindling the popularity of the Cadillac, whose sales dipped heavily in the 1990s in favor or Lexus, BMW and Mercedes.

Since its debut in 2003, the Honda Element has frequently been described with two succinct comments: "It's ugly" and "It's a box with four wheels."

There's no disputing the Element has among the most conspicuous appearances on the road. But good looks (or lack of good looks) are subjective. More important, Honda doesn't make a car without a plan.

The Dodge Viper, after a one-year hiatus, returns in 2008. It's bigger and badder and further advances its reputation as one of the most unique high-performance, two-seat sports cars available.

The Viper has a 600-horsepower, V10 engine, an increase of 90 horsepower from its previous, 2006 edition. It has a six-speed manual transmission, is available as a coupe or convertible and has 18-inch wheels on the front and 19-inch rear wheels.

According to Consumer Guide, the 2007 BMW Z4 convertible and coupe are Best Buy in the premium/sporty car category. The car is racetrack able, yet also reasonably practical as a daily driver.

The American-built two seater has an incline six cylinder engine. The base 3.0i convertible has 215 horsepower, 3.0i model have 255 horsepower and the high-performance M version has 330 horsepower.
