    Car-buying research details that women purchase 46 percent of new cars in the United States. More significantly, women influence more than 80 percent of the country’s new automotive sales. And considering the percentages, what are the most popular cars among women and men?


    Another auto manufacturer seemingly joins the green automotive world each week. This time, it’s Chrysler and its new Envi division. Chrysler has announced it’s planning to launch all-electric vehicles within five years. The new line created last September. Its vehicles are slated to operate on battery power alone for about 40 miles.


    For the first time, the premier class of grand prix motorcycle racing, MotoGP, will have two races this season in the United States as well as in 15 other countries. The first of the two U.S. races, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prrix, will be held July 18-20 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Californa. Three weeks later (Sept. 12-14) Indianapolis, Indiana, will host its first MotoGP event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, site of the Indianapolis 500.

    Toyota is responding to changes in consumer demand and improving the production efficiency and stability of its North American operations by adjusting production mix at three plants. The changes include the addition of the Prius hybrid sedan to its North American lineup.


    Ferrari red is an automotive industry icon. But even one of the world’s most prestigious vehicles will soon also be green. The Italian manufacturer’s president said in a recent newspaper interview that Ferrari plans to cut its vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions by nearly half by 2012.



    No segment of the automotive industry has more buzz than the combined hybrid, electric and alternative fuel car market. Toyota and its Prius dominated hybrid sales in 2007 and through the first half of 2008, the Prius is still at the top of the sales lists. But as gas prices climb and drivers’ environmental concern increase, green increasingly mean and lean.

    For the fifth straight time, Ford's F-150 has claimed the top spot on The Cars.com American-Made Index. The index is a semiannual ranking of vehicles deemed most American based on American production, percentage of domestic parts and American sales volume.

    Amid recent rumors of a bankruptcy of one of its rivals, Ford Motor Co., has added more concern to the troubled automotive industry by announcing its sales fell 27.9 percent in June. Ford’s announcement came eon the first day of the second half of the year and only a few days after rumors of Chrysler’s demise spread throughout the industry.

    In early 2009, according to Takeo Fukui, Honda Motor Company’s president, Honda will offer a new, affordable gas-electric hybrid in the  United States, Japan and Europe. The announcement, made in Tokyo, was presented as the automaker’s “commitment to green technology.”

    Subaru of America, Inc., and ESPN have announced that Subaru will be the exclusive automotive sponsor of X Games 14 to be held in Los Angeles, Calif. July 31-August 3. As part of the tie-in, Subaru will provide ESPN with a 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX for the "Subaru Most Outstanding Athlete of the Games" grand prize award.
