Editor's Notebook:

Despite super horsepower engines, extravagantly plush interiors and any exotic or luxury option you can think of, no car comes close to the impact to the automotive industry than the car of the century — the Ford Model T.

Plenty of Model Ts are still around, although not too many are daily (or weekly) drivers. But without a doubt, it's the vehicle that's had more influence than any other vehicle. And a post in this issue provides highlights of Ford's yearlong celebration the iconic car, which debuted in 1908.

The Weekly Driver (that's me) just spent a week driving throughout Georgia and parts of North Carolina covering the Tour de Georgia bicycle race. I arrived in Georgia after an overnight flight from San Jose, the closest major airport to Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif., where I spent four days reporting on another bike race, the Sea Otter Classic.

Reviews of vehicles for two journeys — a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz and 2008 Kia Optima — will be featured in the next issue. In the meantime, I wrote a few blogs on the my two recent trips and the links area belows. And the image to the right is a nice memory of my Georgia trip. It was taken from the window of my hotel room in Hiawassee.

As always, The Weekly Driver newsletter also features new print and video reviews, automotive features and industry news.

Featured Review: Mazda RX-8, 2008

Sports cars are rarely known for comfort or convenience. But Mazda does a good job of overcoming the stigma with the RX-8. It's a coupe with four doors (sort of) and it's about as comfortable as a sports car can get.

Mazda further differentiates itself in the sports car class via its signature rotary engine. It's the system that replaces pistons pumping in cylinders with triangular rotors spinning in oval chambers. To read more, visit: Mazda RX-B
