The 11th annual Coronado Speed Festival, a racing and military tribute, will be held September 27-28 as part of Fleet Week San Diego, an organization that benefits United States military.
The event, staged against the backdrop San Diego Bay, will feature 280 unique and pedigreed machines at Naval Air Station North Island, birthplace of Naval Aviation.
The Navy’s annual public open house, the Coronado Speed Festival offers individuals and families an opportunity to experience a military base.
Attendees can explore military equipment and talk to captains and crew members.
More than 20,000 people have viewed a spectator-friendly 1.6-mile course quickly constructed
on runways and taxiways of Naval Air Station North Island.
Car enthusiasts will be able to enjoy auto racing’s history with tours of the racecar pits, and they can also speak with the drivers of these unique machines.
Car enthusiasts will also be able to visit the car corral, featuring more than 2,000 automobiles. Additionally, a stroll through vendor village will quell any shopaholics’ need — car equipment, food and beverages and racing accessories. Current Navy jets and helicopters, special boats and hovercraft, as well as vintage aircraft are also on display. Knowledgeable crews are also on site for questions.
The Coronado Speed Festival is produced by San Diego Fleet Week Foundation and hosted by the Naval Base Coronado and the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program (MWR), which benefit military personnel and their families.
